Unbelievable what a young man had to endure in the US: he would have been captured by his own stepmother in the house for more than 20 years. The victim (32) of approximately 30 kilograms set out a fire so that the authorities become aware of this.
The man stated that his 56-year-old stepmother Kimberly Sullivan was captured by his 56-year-old stepmother in the Haus in the state of Conneticut. The senior deputy public prosecutor Donald Therkildsen described the case as “as from a horror film”.
The room was, by holding, 2.44 by 2.74 meters long and had neither heating nor air conditioning. The victim was compared by the public prosecutor with “a survivor of the Auschwitz destruction camp”. The man had to endure “persistent abuse, hunger, serious neglect and inhumane treatment,” said the investigation.
Victims risked life with room fire
To escape from these circumstances, the 32-year-old laid a fire with a hand destinal agent, an old lighter and printer paper in his dungeon on February 17. “He set fire, even though he knew he could have die,” said Therkildsen. “I wanted my freedom,” the man said according to the police.

After his liberation, the victim said he had to drink water from the toilet in his youth because he didn’t even get enough to drink. His food was also rationed. When he was allowed to go to school, he stole food there – sometimes even from garbage cans. He has no longer received medical care or seen a dentist – his teeth are therefore bad. His skin was dirty in his help, his hair was matted.
When his father was alive, the victim would have been able to leave the room every now and then to do or see homework. But when the father died, his hopeless situation deteriorated: he was no longer allowed to get out of his dungeon and had to do his emergency situation with bottles and newspapers.
“The suffering that this victim had to endure for more than 20 years is heartbreaking and unimaginable,” said police chief Fernando Spagnolo. The stepmother was arrested that he is accused of physical injury, kidnapping, deprivation of freedom, cruelty and ruthless threat.
Stepmother denies everything
This strongly denies the allegations: Sullivan claims that the victim’s door was not closed and that her stepson could move freely in the house. But as the “CT Post” reported, the arrest warrant stated that there was a sliding lock on the outside of his room.
