Abad is replaced by Jean-Christophe Combe, former director-general of the French Red Cross
Damien Abad, hitherto Minister of Solidarity, is leaving the post after six weeks in office. Abad, who comes from the right, has been accused of rape and assault by several women, something he always denies. He is succeeded by Jean-Christophe Combe, former director-general of the French Red Cross.
The fired minister has described the serious allegations leveled against him as “despicable defamation”. “I will fight against this disastrous movement that relegates the presumption of innocence to the rank of insignificant antiquity and makes slander a dangerous political weapon in the hands of evil spirits,” the former minister said. Abad, who is also a deputy, confirms that he will continue to fight to prove his innocence.
The Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, recalled in an interview with ‘Elle’ magazine that she recalled ‘the duty of political leaders to set an example at all times’. He has considered that, after the accusations against the former minister, the Justice must decide.
Instead, Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, Secretary of State for Development, will remain in the executive branch. Zacharopoulou, who is a gynecologist by profession, has been accused by two women of rape and a third of “gynecological violence” for events that allegedly took place in her office years ago during medical examinations.
