Companies that do not buy gas from Russia, but bring it to Austria from other sources and use it in this country, will be reimbursed part of the additional costs. This is apparent from a broadcast from the Ministry of Climate Protection on Monday. The goal is to reduce dependence on Russian gas.
The measure was decided in the context of the Gas Diversification Act and will apply until the end of the year. Initially 100 million euros has been earmarked for this. If necessary, the measure can be extended and the financing amount increased.
Financing is provided by the Austria Wirtschaftsservice Gesellschaft (aws). Companies can apply for financing with retroactive effect from the entry into force of the Gas Diversification Act on 1 July 2022 and until the end of 2022.
Do not sell abroad
The condition is that the gas is consumed in Austria or stored in an Austrian storage facility; it may not be sold abroad. The origin of the gas from non-Russian sources must be proven with an affidavit. The company must also demonstrate the additional costs incurred. A maximum of 4.20 euros per megawatt hour is financed.
Half of the subsidy is paid when the gas is delivered to Austria and half when the gas is consumed.
