On average we can stop the air for about one and a half minutes – Jessea Lus Record is 8:01. She is an apnea diver and makes it tens of meters in the depths with only one breath, but that also entails risks. In conversation with Krone+she talks about a dramatic dive.
Already in the stone era, people dived into the sea for mussels, sponges and pearls for a few minutes. The underwater hunting on fish with spears is also a much -wise form of apnea diving. Although most people have to breathe reflexively after a short time, some people manage to stop the air for many minutes – both physically and mentally. In this way the underwater world can then be investigated without an oxygen bottle.
