At the border crossing in the southern styric field, there are still ten years after the great refugee stick, which devours a lot of money. However, it does not seem to be an option at the moment.
The big wave of refugees spilled over Europe ten years ago: the border crossing in the southern styric playing field became the needle of the Balkan route to West -Europe in the fall of 2015. The mass gate of asylum seekers completely overwhelmed the domestic authorities, there were dramatic scenes and photos that went around the world.
At that time, the large tents that stayed to this day were already set up. In the fall of 2022, when there were reinforced escape movements, a so -called waiting zone was set up on the border, including new infrastructure, including with sanitary containers. Asylum seekers must be placed there in the short term until they are placed in fixed neighborhoods during the basic stock.
Waiting zone has been closed for two years
Sometimes refugees then organize in tents for up to a week or more. After autumn 2022, the number of refugees gradually fell. This also meant that the playing field in the waiting zone was closed at the end of March 2023. But there are still three orphaned large tents, which is surprising for many Styrians – especially when it comes to costs, because the tents are rented.
At the request of “Krone”, the Ministry of the Interior says: “The waiting zone of the field serves as a preventive facility for various security sites.” For the tents, including sanitary facilities and heaters, monthly costs of around 55,000 euros are incurred – mainly for rent, maintenance and cleaning. The contracts with the loan companies can be terminated at any time – but this is apparently not taken into consideration.
