At around 2:40 am the sirens blared in Feldkirchen near Mattighofen (Upper Austria) – a residential building was already on fire. It is not clear what happened to the owner. He has since been found dead.
Ten fire brigades were or are still in use. The remoteness of the house meant that miles of fire lines had to be built – making the operation very difficult, as FF Commander Hermann Strasshofer reports: “It soon became clear that we needed several tankers, so we declared Alert Level 2.”

It was unclear where the owner – who would be between 70 and 80 years old – was. Meanwhile, there is a sad certainty: his body has been discovered.
