Final in the most spectacular economic criminal procedures in Austria. In the latter case, the Supreme Court decides on the judgments for the former Finance Minister Karl-Heinz Grasser, his witnesses Walter Meischberger and PR-consultant Peter Hochegger. The duration of the procedure is doubtful.
“It is not a price for a functioning constitutional state if a procedure lasts so long. This is not reasonable for all involved,” said Criminal Law Expert Robert Kert to Armin Wolf in ZIB 2 on Wednesday.
Almost ten million committee
In 2004, Karl-Heinz Grasser privatized 60,000 Bubog apartments as Minister of Finance, in 2009 a commission payment of almost ten million euros appeared to Hochegger during a house search at the then Best Bieder Immofinanz. The money between Grasser and Co. Would be divided between Grasser and Co. through a complicated international business system.
For seven years the investigation into the indictment, three years of the trial, at the end of which De Graser was – not legally binding – exported in prison for eight years for six and seven years in prison. The appeal procedure lasted for more than four years, now a Senate with five judges has decided on the judgments that took place by Judge Marion Hohenecker in 2020.
Judging on Tuesday
Four days are planned for this in the Vienna Palace of Justice. Various results of the OGH negotiation are possible from confirmation, reduction or cancellation of judgments to a rejection of the first court. For Karl-Heinz Grasser, Meischberger and Hohenegger it is a day of fate.
