Fitness -Insocation in children and adolescents

Date:

Corona Pandemic has influenced many areas of life. Preliminary results of a study now show that the suitability of children and adolescents also drastically deteriorated. “There is a slump in endurance and strength,” warns study director Alexander Woll.

The sportiness of German children and adolescents was measured for the first time since the start of the pandemic. According to the provisional calculations, the performance of boys in the bicycle endurance test fell by almost 7.7 percent and 9.6 percent of girls.

Pandemie can have negative effects in the long term
“This indicates that the Pandeme -related limitations and reduced movement options can have long -term negative effects on motor development,” said Sports Scientist and head of the study, professor Alexander Woll. A scientific evaluation should be available within a few weeks. Only then is it about representative data, it emphasizes.

4,500 children studied
For the so -called Motoric Module Study, around 4,500 children and adolescents in Germany were examined between mid -2023 and at the end of 2024. For example, the participants were investigated in sports halls and completed strength, endurance and balance tests there. “This is a very good basis to look at what happened to Corona,” says Woll, who teaches the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

Children do not move enough
Other trends also emerged. So sports clubs had been restored to Corona. Children and adolescents are again as active as for Corona. But only about a fifth of the boys and girls achieved the level of activity that was recommended by the WHO, said it.
