In official letters from the Italian schools, special characters are no longer used, such as gender stars. The Ministry of Education has sent a circular to all schools in the country.
The facilities are asked to no longer use characters, such as the gender star or the “Schwa” (such as a destroyed e) used in Italy. The special characters would violate Italian grammar and say the risk of “the clarity and uniformity of institutional communication” would say, the Ministry of Education said.
It refers to the Academia della Crusca, the oldest language company in the country, which repeatedly pointed out that it was not grammatically correct to use such graphic characters.
Meloni wants to be tackled with a male title
In the Italian language, nouns and adjectives take on a male and female form. When conditions in the plural, both sexes form, the man have priority. That is why some circles set gender stars or the “schwa” that should face a gender -neutral language.
The use of gender language is a thorn in the side of the right -wing conservative government. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni attaches importance to being tackled with the male form of her official title.
