That was dangerous! The emergency services of various fire brigades on Friday evening at Breitenberg in Hohenems had a very challenging effort. Despite the ban, strangers had fueled a fire in an illegal barbecue area – this was almost a real hell.
Due to the high risk of forest fire, it is forbidden to ignite an open fire on Breitenberg. This did not prevent unknown perpetrators from celebrating a small barbecue party on Friday evening. And apparently the fire was not fully extinguished afterwards – which would almost have led to a disaster due to the current drought and strong wind -flifting windfalls. Within a short time, the flames spread over a larger area. Fortunately, the fire was discovered by various attentive passers -by – by the Valley floor – this immediately informed the fire brigade.
Florianis had to be tropped
When the Floriani disciples arrived on the spot, the fire had already spread over a distance of about 100 meters to the adjacent forest area. Due to the fast and coordinated collaboration of a total of eight fire brigades from all over the country, the flames above the rocky edge could be contained there. The location under this edge of the rock was particularly challenging, where various sintels were also formed. Two firefighters had to be caught from the mountain of salvation to extinguish them. The extinguishing work was supported by a drone by the Dornbirn Fire Brigade, which is equipped with a thermal image camera.
Water was removed from the valley
Due to the inaccessibility of the area, a total of 23 emergency vehicles had to be parked at approximately 300 meters from the actual using place – the water transport was carried out using specially designed hose lines. Speaking of water: this had to be transported from the valley to the mountain. It was taken from the Weiher Emsreuthe and around 60,000 liters were led to the site of fire in eight sling trips. “Fire” could only be given around 1 o’clock.
The firefighters and women have a big thank you -without their professional intervention, the fire could have grown into one of the largest forest fires in the history of Vorarlberg.
