In recent days, several municipalities have announced restrictive measures, such as Verona, which has started rationing the use of drinking water; or Milan, which announced the closure of its decorative fountains. And in Castenaso, in the province of Bologna, the mayor has banned hairdressers from washing customers’ hair twice, on pain of a fine of up to 500 euros.

Brazil: more than 50,000 displaced by the rain

At least seven people have died, one person has disappeared and dozens of Brazilian cities are in an emergency as the heavy rainfall that has hit the states of Alagoas, Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Norte since the weekend. The situation has worsened due to the overflowing of rivers and lakes.

On the other hand, nearly 7,000 people have been left homeless in Pernambuco, according to a balance released by the state government on Sunday. The state has a total of 51 municipalities, half of which are in a state of emergency due to heavy rainfall, more than 50,000 people have been left homeless.

Australia: declared a natural disaster

The Australian government on Monday declared a natural disaster to allow for a rapid disbursement of emergency funds for residents of the southeastern part of the country, where torrential rain has resulted in the evacuation of more than 50,000 people.

The storm has hit the state of New South Wales with particular virulence, which has recorded its fourth major flood in less than 18 months.

In March, Australian authorities reported the deaths of nine people in Queensland as a result of massive flooding that ravaged the country for days.
