Car tires, sinks, used diapers, even entire bedroom facilities: everything that is conceivable is removed on the land from farmers. A farmer from Linz is furious: the waste is not only unpleasant in the cultivation of food, but also endangers the animals.
“You don’t believe what you can find.” Farmer Michaela Sommer of the Pichling District of Linz collects the waste – like others from her colleagues from the farmers – who are carelessly deposited on her property.
It was only on Monday that the furniture of an entire bedroom in a forest in Schiltenberg is found. From the latframe to a clothing box to furniture. “I thought I dreamed. It was really nicely divided, so that cleaning up is still a lot of work.”
Part of the fields of Farmer Sommer – she is also club chairman of the ÖVP Linz – is located along Federal Road B1. Drivers are allowed to throw waste from the windows when they pass by. Collect alaudoses, glass bottles and paper waste on the surfaces that are actually intended for agriculture.
65 tires in the forest removed
But large waste also ends up on agricultural land: “Buren of ours had 65 tires in the forest a few years ago. That must have been a company. And hunters found about 30 stuffed diapers.
Not only is the contamination of adult foods the result of the waste deposits, this also means that animals can be harmed, says Sommer: for example, if they get up and parts of cut aluminum tins injure, or when sharp garbage parts even enter their food.
“Don’t be pig”
The problem is not only the farmer of Pichling. “We have to make it clear to the environmental residents what nature means when waste is removed illegally,” says Marlene Neuwirdth, chairman of young farmers in Upper Austria. Already in 2023 the young farmer drawn attention to the subject with the “Be No Pig” campaign. The population must increase consciousness.
