For a German hiker (57) who slipped on the Stubaier Höhenweg (Tirol) on Wednesday and fell about 150 to 200 meters, according to the police, all help came too late. The man died on the spot.
The 57-year-old from Thuringia started a walk on the Stubaier Höhenweg on Monday as a member of a four-member hiking group. After spending the night in huts, the group hiked from the Innsbrucker hut to the Bremer hut on Wednesday. In the “Wasenwand” area, the group was passing a steel-insured rock passage when the 57-year-old slipped on a step shortly afterwards.
Fall over rocky terrain
He then fell, several times, over a steep meadow slope and then over rocky terrain for about 150 to 200 meters. Two of the fellow hikers descended on the injured person and tried to resuscitate them, the third started the rescue chain. The helicopter’s emergency medical team was only able to determine the man’s death. The body was recovered by a police helicopter using ropes. The mountain rescue service Steinach, NAH Martin 8 and a crisis intervention team were also deployed.
