Because a 29-year-old was hungry and wanted to be cared for, he stabbed a woman in the middle of Klagenfurt. He should go to an institution.
Nothing has been the same since January for a 62-year-old from Klagenfurt. Because at that moment she was attacked from behind by a man in broad daylight in front of a shopping center in the middle of the city and seriously injured with at least eight knife wounds. The woman could only be saved by emergency surgery.
Why was she the victim?
“It could have been anyone,” said the 29-year-old Armenian, shrugging his shoulders during the trial. He doesn’t feel guilty: “I had no other choice. I was out of money and hungry. So I ran off with the knife to injure someone so I could go to an institution and finally be cared for.” The authorities and everyone else, except him, were responsible for the frenzied attack: “Fucking Austrias!” That’s why he screamed when he jumped his victim.
‘Give a pension, then everything will be fine’
For prosecutor Tanja Wohlgemuth, the man is dangerous. “He has suffered from paranoid schizophrenia for years. According to the report, he was not of sound mind.” So it is not about a punishment, but about an admission to an institution. Where the person concerned, as it is called in judicial jargon, disagrees: “I think I am completely healthy and do not need medication. They should give me a pension, then everything will be fine.”
With a wave of his hand, he brushed off his pose as a king or a millionaire: “It doesn’t matter.” The briefing was a formality – not legally binding.
