Shortly before the start of the summer season, the city of Palma presented a new security concept for the beach section on Mallorca, which is referred to by German holidaymakers. Travelers must prepare for cameras, drones and extra law enforcement officers.
“The excesses in the Playa de Palma of recent years should not be repeated,” said Mayor Jaime Martínez. In the past, visitors to the celebration repeatedly caused negative headlines with swing excesses, fights, rapes and vandalism.
Measures valid from April 17
“The point is to guarantee safety for 24 hours,” the mayor emphasized. Numerous negative headlines about alcohol and violent excesses have given the tourist location a picture in recent years that the Spanish government wants to say goodbye. The new measures must start from 17 April.
- According to Martínez, eight new police cars, three drones and surveillance cameras for the local mile in SO -Called Schinenstrasse were purchased with three million euros from the income of tourist tax.
- Moreover, another 170 police officers would be used. Civil strips must be able to intervene quickly in an emergency.
Hoteliers had complained in the past in a lack of presence of the police. It is still to be seen whether the new measures have an effect.
