On Wednesday afternoon, the professional fire brigade of Graz had to divert to a fire in an apartment building in Gösting. An explosion had even damaged the wall.
The fire in the apartment on Oberen Weid caused a so-called deflagration, an explosive combustion, as the professional fire brigade of Graz explains. The pressure wave ripped the window out of the exterior wall, causing cracks in the wall and damage to the ceiling and chimney.
When the fire brigade arrived in Gösting, the apartment was already on fire. 23 men were able to prevent the spread to the attic and the adjacent apartment.
Residents have to move to alternative housing
Fortunately no one was injured. All apartments in the affected part of the building are currently uninhabitable. Replacement housing could be organized for tenants. The cause of the fire is under police investigation.
