Doctors transplanted spermastam cells for the first time

A former cancer patient in the United States was planted 13 years after the removal and the freezing of sperm trunk cells. After this medical milestone, the 26-year-old hopes that he can quickly become a father.

The American Jaiwen HSU was only eleven when he was diagnosed with bone cancer after a leg injury. To maintain fertility after cancer therapy, his parents came in to participate in a study by the University of Pittsburgh. Moreover, the frozen stem cells are from doctors.

13 years later the cells were brought back to his body for the first time during an intervention – a medical milestone. With a precise control, the doctors injected the stem cells directly into their original location. They hope that his body will soon start forming their own sperm cells.

Patient is happy with “decision of my parents”
“We are still not wonder,” says study director Kyle Orwig. “But we hope that small amounts of sperm will be produced to testify a child with the help of artificial insemination.” In any case, Jaiwen hopes: “I don’t know what’s happening. But I’m glad my parents made this decision at that time.”
