Amazon has tested in Europe whether delivery drivers could be useful as the first Aider in the case of cardiac arrest. More than 100 drivers participated in the pilot project in Amsterdam, London and Bologna, as Amazon confirmed according to a report from the Bloomberg Financial Service.
The cars were equipped with defibrillators that normalize a disturbed heart rhythm. Now the “feedback is being evaluated,” the group said.
Several drivers had arrived during the test in an emergency after App Alarm Reports but emergency services had already been deployed. Bloomberg reported on Amazon documents, the attempt called “Project Pulse” started in November 2023 in Amsterdam. Volunteers among the drivers would have received a first aid course, which also included the functioning of the defibrillators.
Amazon drivers can be faster than emergency services
Amazon drivers travel all day long over the cities. According to the report, the documents contain a study by the medical technology supplier Philips, according to which drivers of a fleet of 50 cars with defibrillators on board in a northern district of Seattle could reach more than a minute faster than emergency services in emergency situations. Bloomberg referred to statistics of the American Red Cross, according to which 70 percent of the cardiac arrest took place in residential areas.
Amazon itself estimated that 15 percent of the delivery network of the group could be equipped for less than $ 17 million in the first year of such a program, according to the report.
