According to the warning service, the avalanche danger is currently low to moderate, but an avalanche occurred on Thursday morning near Gmeineck in Seeboden.
In the early morning hours a slab of snow fell on the Gmeineck. The significant avalanche was clearly visible from the Drautal. There was even a search for someone who was buried. “At the beginning of the afternoon there was a dragonfly observation flight by the Alpine police,” reports operational manager Horst Wohlgemuth. “No signs of possible burials could be found.”
The slope is not a typical ski touring area. However, the danger should not be underestimated. “The descent was a 200 meter wide sliding snow avalanche,” Wohlgemuth explains. There is also a low avalanche danger in East Tyrol and a moderate avalanche danger in the Venice and Glockner groups.
