Without knowing … – Australian wore embryo from a strange woman

Date:

Due to confusion in a clinic for artificial fertilization, a woman unconsciously kept the child of another in Australia. Because of human failure, an embryo of the wrong woman from artificial fertilization was used, the clinic said.

“I would like to say how much I feel sorry for what happened,” said clinic chef Michael Knaap in Brisbane on Thursday evening (local time). He assured the affected patients in “these extremely painful times”.

Confused in February
According to the information, the confusion was noted in February. The baby’s parents had asked for their remaining embryos to keep them by another provider of artificial fertilization.

On this occasion, the staff found more embryos than expected and then started an investigation. This showed that an embryo from another patient for the woman was “thawed”.

“The research also showed that despite the appropriate strict regulations for laboratory safety, including a multi-phase identification process, a human error was made,” said the clinic. According to her own statements, she informed the affected patients within a week, asked for apologies and offered them support. Moreover, the incident was reported to the responsible supervisory authorities.

The Australian Social Affairs Minister Amanda Rishworth called for the consequences to restore trust in artificial insemination. “If someone who had a baby thanks to artificial insemination, it breaks my heart,” Rishworth told the Nine broadcasting channel. “I cannot imagine suffering that this family or families will continue. You bring so much confidence in these companies,” the minister added with a view to clinics for reproductive medicine.

Protection measures must be strengthened
The state of the state of Queensland said it would collaborate with Monash IVF to “strengthen its protective measures in its clinics in Queensland and to ensure that any risks are identified and enclosed”.

It is not the first case in which a Monash IVF clinic is accused of a serious error. In August last year, the clinic chain undertaken in a settlement -of the scheme to pay $ 56 million (31.2 million euros), without being associated with a debt certificate. In addition, she had averted legal proceedings because of the claim that she had incorrectly destroyed feasible embryos because she was classified as doubtful because of an incorrect genetic test.
