The City Hall of the City has asked the Cañaveras Solar company to reconsider the photovoltaic facilities that are projected in the municipality and to avoid the occupation of qualified agricultural land from high strategic value.
Agurain City Council (Álava) has the installation of Solar parks Projected in the municipality, among other things, to occupy land Agriculture qualified as a high strategic value. This opposition will be reflected in an initiative that will be approved by EH Bildu tomorrow, Tuesday, in the consistory, and in which the coalition has a majority.
The city council explained in a comment that the company Tanning Project Two photovoltaic facilities, one with 21,720 panels that would occupy 22.22 hectares, of which 14 are qualified as High strategic value agricultural lands. The other offers 48 960 panels that are larger than 50 hectares.
In view of this situation, the municipal entity has expressed its total opposition against these projects and has claimed that an exclusion zone of at least 500 meters away to the populated cores is guaranteed.
Moreover, it has asked the company to allow the participation of the social and economic agents of the city to the ownership of the company that was established for the exploitation of these parks.
The mayor of the city, Raúl López de UracDe, has asked the company that spaces and agricultural land with a high strategic value are protected and “those steps are taken in the democratization of energy production with the participation of our community in the projects.”
“So far we have received a negative answer. That’s why we oppose these projects,” said the mayor.
Finally, in the text that will be discussed in the Municipal Commission on Monday and that it will be fully approved tomorrow, it says that the Basque government “must assume its obligation to promote the use of renewable energy sources that promote deliberative processes that guarantee an honest and democratic transition that meets the energy needs of the area.”
