Orthodox Christians in Jerusalem condemned the behavior of the Israeli police against Christian believers during the celebrations of “holy fire” on the Holy Saturday. There were intimidation and violent attacks by the officials.
According to Kathpress, the police would have threatened and beaten children from the reconnaissance groups, women and the elderly with weapons in a statement from the “Arab Orthodox Union Club of Jerusalem” from Saturday evening.
The scenes that took place in the old city of Jerusalem described the Arab Christians group as “unacceptable”. She accused the officials of it to prevent Christians in a break “of all status quo agreements that have been around for centuries” in access to the Christian old city district, to the Grabeskirche and the surrounding roofs.
The group calls on the Christian leaders to take measures to “put an end to these blatant injuries to fundamental human rights”.
