There was a huge rock on the Easter weekend in the Carinthian Lesachtal. 15 farms are currently only accessible via a forest path.
The rockfall took place on Sunday evening around 7 p.m. A hunter who wanted to go to Obergail was laid in front of the street by rock masses and raised alarm. “It was very lucky that nobody traveled on the street at the time of the Rock Fall,” reports Johann Windbichler, mayor of the municipality of Lesachtal.
Road closed
About 40 people are currently cut off from the outside world. Windbichler: “There is a forest path that can be powered by the car. We want to investigate it again and prepare it if necessary.” In any case, the municipal road to Obergail is closed for all traffic. How long the lock will remain is not yet clear.
The position must be examined on Tuesday by the state geologist and other experts. Because Windbichler said, the slope is still moving. “The slope had already been unstable in the past. Now there has been a huge rock trap,” says the community manager, who speaks of “hundreds of cubic meters of rock material”. The cause is probably unstable rock that has fallen due to glaze or precipitation.
