This is how Austria responds – “Listen to the last message of the Pope!”

Date:

Representatives of church and politics say goodbye to the deceased Pope on Easter Monday. A central memory runs through the most important speeches: Francis mainly wanted to change the church, not people. The needy and outsiders took the majority of his efforts. And: his last message – heavily drawn on Easter Sunday on St. Peter’s Square – was intended to have urgent words of peace.

The “Kroon” was on the phone on Easter Monday at 10.30 am with an audibly moving Cardinal Christoph Schönborn. He, who himself was considered a selectable candidate for Pope, knew the Holy Father the best of all Austrian dignitaries of 1997, still as a conception bishop of Buenos Aires.

Until the death of Franziskus, the cardinal says: “It is a strong sign that the Pope died in Easter. He believed in eternal life after death. He bravely and went through his illness. His last visit outside the Vatican on Maundy on Thursday was in prison:” His great attraction, the big subject was also the war. “

“The dynamics of violence must end”
Cardinal Schönborn continued: “He was looking for a dialogue with all the religions. Because we are all brothers and sisters. If you hear your last message, also in writing, your inheritance, the weapons must be quiet and the dynamics of violence have to end.”

In a final attempt, Francis again called on all warring parties to hire the fire, the hostages released and help people – krone.at reported the fire on Easter Sunday.

“Do not lead believers on the right path, but the church”
Caritas European President and previously caritas boss in Austria for a long time, Michael Landau, says the “Krone”: A central legacy of Pope Francis will be that he did not first want to lead the believers on the so -driven right path, but the church itself. Francis no longer led people to court, but he understands the church as a “field hospital”. Pope Francis reminded the church and the world: we are pilgrims of hope. And he didn’t first look at books, but in the faces of the people. He testified – above all others – the grace of God, a leitmotif of the Bible.

He made it clear that the square of the church must be on the side of the poor. And as Pope he went to the edges of society “from the end of the world”.

Federal President Alexander van der Bellen also recognized the late pope as “inspiration for millions of believers and far outside” and “guide of hope”. He was a “pope for social justice” and “very close to people”.

“He traveled to Lampedusa and thought of the many dead”
Van der Bellen: “He traveled to the refugees to Lampedusa and thought of the many dead in the Mediterranean Sea. He campaigned for the preservation of creation. He made sure that homeless people could take a shower near St. Peter’s Square. He criticized inhumane words and gestures.

Francis never looked away – “he looked and the world with him”. Time and again he sent a headlight to where he saw the wells of people in danger. For him, the name Francis will always stand for the closeness and humanity, Van der Bellen concluded.

For Chancellor Christian Stocker (ÖVP), “The tireless dedication to peace, justice and tolerance” of the Pope will remain unforgettable: “His work as a connector between nations, religions and cultures has inspired countless people. Paus Francis’ faith, his humility and his service will live on the weakest of the society.”

Francis had inspired many people worldwide in his service as a successor Petri, emphasized the Chancellic Minister Claudia Plakolm (ÖVP) who is responsible for religious issues in a tweet (see above) – “By his modesty, his dedication to justice and open dialogue with all”.

Further reactions follow.
