Hospital forces in the group – Special Medicine: should old “stay outside”?

Date:

The population is getting older and emphasizes the lower hospital councilor Ludwig Schleritzko and officer of the State Health Intiliators Elisabeth Bräutigam. At the same time, however, age limits refuse special treatment, the clinic staff increases the alarm. The best therapy is not always, according to the clinic operator.

The mass renovation of the health care system, which is elaborated in the Health Pact and must now be implemented, makes increasingly higher waves. Hospital staff from different parts of Lower Austria reported to the “Krone” because they are very concerned about the fact: special medical departments are always overloaded. This is reported several times using the example of one of the seven “stroke units” in the country, which specialize in the range of patients with a stroke.

Scenes from the hospital practice
“If all beds are occupied again, it is not uncommon for you to be easily lost,” the hospital practice is reported. In the beginning, only the age of the patient is often requested – without taking into account the overall state. Only for people who are apparently young enough do previous diseases and other medical factors also pay attention. And even there you often have the impression that only reasons should be found in order not to have to accept a patient. “This is understandable from the perspective of colleagues of busy departments. But nobody can want such a health system,” is the scope.

Save with limited access?
The health pact must be based on the future challenges and therefore also on the ever -increasing population. Hospital councilor Ludwig Schleritzko and the head of the State Health Agency (LGA), Elisabeth Groom, often emphasize this fact – in 2050 almost every third Lager Austrian will be more than 65 years old. The accusation of the Clinic Insider: will be saved by offering special medicine, but then many elderly people deny access.

Expert work for the best possible protection
Neither Schleritzko nor the LGA want to leave that. “More than 50 experts have developed the Health Plan that was decided by a majority in the government and in the State Parliament. The aim is to guarantee the best possible health care in the long term. We will not shake this,” says the State Council’s office. The LGA emphasizes that age can be a factor in the treatment: “You must always weigh opportunities and risks – there are guidelines based on scientific studies. Doctors decide this carefully and carefully.”
