Drama on Thursday evening about a passionate sailor from Burgkirchen. Josef H. died in a sailing accident in Slovenia. During a thunderstorm he fell into the sea and was pushed against the rocks by the boat.
Josef H. was one of the founders of the Braunau Simbach Yacht Club, was active there as a youth and examination officer and taught many young people how to sail. On Thursday night, his biggest hobby became his downfall. The 74-year-old was crushed by his own sailboat on Slovenia’s Adriatic coast.
Strong waves, stormy seas
As reported by the STA news agency, citing the police in Koper, the man jumped on the boat after it broke off the wharf of the port of Izola in stormy seas. However, due to the strong waves, he fell into the sea and was then pushed against the rocks by the boat.
Josef H. succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene of the accident. The badly damaged sailboat went down. The sympathy for the death of the former HTL teacher is enormous.
