The series of serious skiing accidents in Tyrol continues: after a whole series of operations over the weekend, the rescuers were also called onto the slopes on Monday. Again there were several serious injuries. In Lermoos in the Ausserfern, a married couple even got in each other’s way. In Kirchberg in the Unterland, a skier fled after a collision.
Monday morning 10.15 am: In Lermoos in the Reutte district, a collision happened on the blue slope no. 10 between a 70-year-old Dutchman and his wife (67). “Despite the low speed, the woman fell and suffered serious injuries,” the police said. After first aid, the holidaymaker was flown by emergency doctor helicopter to Reutte hospital. Her husband was unharmed.
After the crash: the pain didn’t start until later
Almost at the same time, a fatal accident also occurred in Sölden in the Ötztal: An unknown winter sports enthusiast drove over the skis of a Briton (68) on the so-called “Innerwald T-bar lift”, causing him to fall. “The young man stopped but drove on after the man gave permission,” investigators said.
Only later did the 68-year-old experience severe pain. He was taken to a doctor by the track rescue service, who subsequently diagnosed a serious leg injury.
Skier (72) rammed from behind
Change of scenery to the Zillertal: There in the Hochzillertal ski area around 1.15 pm a 72-year-old skier was rammed from behind by a German (43). The woman suffered serious injuries in the fall and was escorted to the valley by the slope rescue service in the gondola. There it finally went to a doctor.
Hit and run after collision
Already on Sunday, a collision in the Ehrenbachhöhe ski area in Kirchberg (Kitzbühel district) – in addition to a whole series of other accidents – caused a serious injury. A 64-year-old German woman collided with an unknown skier in the run-off area of a steep slope. The latter only stopped briefly and then left the scene of the accident without helping the seriously injured woman and without leaving his details. The German was flown with the rescue helicopter to the St. Johann hospital.
