A helicopter nearly crashed into the sea during maintenance work on a lighthouse in Brittany, France. Video captured by a webcam on the coast shows the helicopter suddenly crashing headfirst into the immediate vicinity of the Pointe du Raz lighthouse. The helicopter only recovers just above the rock on which the lighthouse stands, popular as a photo motif.
An employee of the lighthouse company was injured in the leg in the incident on Wednesday by a slipping load in the helicopter, BFMTV reported Friday.
Incident is under investigation
Secretary of State for Maritime Affairs Hervé Berville expressed support for the injured and praised the crew’s ability to avoid a crash. It was initially unknown why the helicopter was thrown off balance and is under investigation.
