This Wednesday is the trial against Styrian Robert L., who is responsible for the attacks on Jehovah’s Witnesses. He continues: “I didn’t want to kill anyone except my ex-wife!”
The effort of the investigation to find out who is responsible for the Jehovah’s Witnesses for the bomb attacks was huge, as a researcher describes on Wednesday: “The leading police services from all over Austria were finally involved, the whole country was struck. The effort and pressure were huge! That someone wanted to kill his wife, only later became clear.”
After the second murder attempt, however, the loop continued to go for the suspect at that time. DNA traces on the explosive body pointed to him. He had arrested himself without resistance at his workplace. His words shortly after the handcuffs clicked: “I just wanted to kill my ex-wife. Have you already found the bomb on your car?”
Of course the alarm bells were stark, danger was in default! The woman was informed by the police, the car was looking extensively – “but we just couldn’t find the bomb, that was very uncomfortable,” the researcher admits. It was only through further information from the accused she was finally discovered, hidden in the wheel cabinet and black, so as not to attract attention. In general, the hated “ex” was on the car for about six weeks with the explosive body!
What judge Andreas Rome is surprised: in the course of her interrogation on the first day of the trial, his ex-wife and daughter did not want to meet the suspect, he had to be removed. However, the fear seems to have gone on the verdict, both are in the audience. The daughter then left the hall without a word.
“He can leave a large field of extermination”
Finally, the psychiatric expert Manfred Walzl has their say. The accused diagnosted a serious, sustainable psychological disorder, but the accountability was given. Walzl: “In 38 years old it never happened to me that someone has spoken so openly, so clear and emotionless.” Robert L. had only seen himself as a dairy cow from his past, that was very limited to him financially. He finally stood in front of a wall. “Then he considered a solution that is not the order of the day: killing his wife. The idea came to him in June 2023 when he was in the hospital. He practically discussed it with his brain.”
The accused does not consider himself dangerous. According to the expert, he finds no empathy and pity, or only for his current wife. Now, in custody, he finally has time for himself. Like a bridge in the wash, he feels a bit liberated. Walzl’s other expertise: “With him, his own ego dominates everything else, and he is extremely compensated. If this is not treated – and that is difficult – he has an extremely high risk of acting. He can leave a large field of destruction. Unfortunately, despite his high intelligence, he has been a lot accepted because he has only been determined for the death of his wife.
Nothing has changed for the public prosecutor in the course of the process, she maintains her indictment and then expanded the indictment to 38 instead of 35 attempts to kill: “It was a miracle in particular that the bomb did not implement.” He knew that the bombs could not only kill his ex-wife, but also others. He even accepted the death of his children. He knew how to create a fear climate with the witnesses of the Jehovah. “This has surpassed every red line. I couldn’t see a rube until the end. He is ice cold and empathy. Nothing can justify what he did, he would have had a different choice.”
Defender Gerd Krassnig counted: “He would never have accepted death. There are also indications of this, only his general responsibility gives it again. He has drawn a red line that he was not ready to surpass. The motive was always a personal
A judgment can be expected in the late afternoon.
