The World Freedom Classification 2025 warns that the conditions for exercising journalism are “difficult” or “very serious” in more than half of the countries of the world.
The 2025 edition of the World Freedom Classification, prepared by Reporters Sans Frontières (RSF), has revealed an unprecedented decrease in the economic indicator that evaluates the viability of the media. According to the report, 160 of the 180 countries analyzed cannot guarantee the financial stability of their media, and in one third of them the writing closures are constant. “Without financial independence there is no free press,” says Anne Bocandé, editorial director of RSF.
