A serial gas station robber had kept Vorarlberg in suspense for the past few months. The perpetrator, who always struck armed and masked at night, escaped undetected five times. But now the handcuffs clicked for a 25-year-old Austrian.
Between March and June, a total of five robberies were committed at gas stations in Hard, Bregenz, Hörbranz and Bürs. The police soon became convinced that the perpetrator, who always struck masked and armed with a pistol in the early morning hours, was one and the same person. In all cases, the perpetrator managed to escape from the crime scene undetected. But now the police have been able to track down a 25-year-old man from Hard who is strongly suspected of committing the robberies.
Crime clothes secured
During extensive investigations in the immediate vicinity of the crime scene in Bürs, which were carried out by the National Criminal Investigation Service together with detectives from the Bludenz district, the decisive clues emerged from a car with Bregenz number plates, which then led to the suspect. The young man was arrested in his apartment in Harde on Thursday morning on behalf of the public prosecutor in Feldkirch by agents of the National Criminal Investigation Service in Harde. Parts of the crime clothes were also found in the apartment.
Gambling, Drugs, Debt
During the interrogations, the 25-year-old Austrian confessed that he had committed all five robberies only at the gas station shops. According to his own statements, he is heavily in debt, has a gambling addiction and also uses drugs. Within a short time, he spent the stolen money on gambling and drugs. The suspect will be transferred to Feldkirch prison on Friday.
