The federal leader of the “Protection Association for Non-Smokers”, Robert Rockenbauer, requires considerably stricter measures on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his organization. Smoking forbidden outdoors are needed in Austria – such as “at stops, lawn and swimming pools, parks and playgrounds, but especially in the outer gastronomy,” said Rockenbauer.
Because the latter in particular would lead to smoking. Despite the waving forbidden in numerous interior areas, Austria continues to “catch up” in an international comparison, Tyrolean emphasized, who was often called “non -smoking pope”.
“Other countries such as England or New Zealand are much further,” Rockenbauer emphasized. That is why there must also be smoke bans outside – and where people meet. Smoking must also be completely forbidden in Sportstadions.
Restrictions for e-cigarettes required
In addition, Rockenbauer spoke for considerably higher tobacco prices, the abolition of cigarette machines and for stricter regulations for e-cigarettes: “No more aroma substances, sell only through tobogganing”, was the demand for the non-smoking protector in relation to the latter. According to Rockenbauer, e-cigarettes would tempt the youth in the first place to smoke.
Involvement sitting 1975
His dedication to smoking began in March 1975 -in the event of self -supply restaurants, where Rockenbauer successfully commands the first non -haunting tables. Only a year later he organized the first “Ball Without Smoke” in Innsbruck – an event that took place for more than 15 years every year.
For a long time, smoking at the workplace and in the catering trade was one of the most important destinations of Rockenbauer. However, his path was anything but easy, according to his own statements: “Lawns of cigarette companies, hostility in public and political obstacles accompanied my commitment during decades.” Nevertheless, he was able to achieve countless phase victories – such as the introduction of absolute ban on smoking in the catering trade in November 2019. He described this as “Let but considerable success”.
He was especially proud of his educational work in schools: more than 30,000 students were reached – through more than 300 lectures. At the same time, Rockenbauer remembered countless, lively media debates with prominent people who think differently, for example with the then director of the Austria Tobacco Director and the old ÖFB president Beppo Mauhart.
Birthday and uncertain future
According to Rockenbauer, however, it was open how things continue with his organization. After the loss of public financing, your survival is at stake. “Nobody wants to work on a voluntary basis a year,” said Rockenbauer thinking. Nevertheless, he wants to become involved in non -smoking protection – “as long as it works”.
