On Friday evening, a 40-year-old was seriously injured in a traffic accident in Vorarlberg. In the municipality of Klaus, the man had deviated from the road to the right with his Maxda MX5 convertible, crashed into a stone wall and rolled over as a result.
The 40-year-old from Vorarlberg was driving his powerful Mazda convertible down Walgaustrasse toward St. Arbogast around 8:45 p.m. Friday when he lost control of his MX5 on a left turn under St. Agnes Church and had a right-hand turn.
The vehicle first struck a street lamp, then hit a stone wall, rolled over and landed on its roof. The 40-year-old was seriously injured and had to be treated at the scene by an emergency medical team before being flown by the rescue helicopter “Christophorus 8” to the regional hospital in Feldkirch for further treatment.
The cause of the accident is not clear, according to police. Given the signs of the accident – for example the right rear wheel was torn out in the collision – it can be speculated whether the driver was actually only driving at 40 km/h in this area. The Walgaustraße had to be completely closed for the duration of the accident investigation and cleaning work by the Klaus fire brigade.
