Fifth generation of the SsangYong Rexton, with new exterior and interior design and 7 seats, from 38,200 euros

The new Rexton is an evolution of the fourth generation launched in 2018, which was quite a demonstration of what SsangYong is capable of in the higher end SUV segment. The success of the Rexton is based on offering a vehicle with a large interior space, comfortable, safe, with a high level of technological equipment and with off-road capabilities above the average for the segment, thanks to its robust chassis with longitudinal members and crossbars, the connectable four-wheel drive with central differential lock and as one of the few vehicles in this segment equipped with a reduction gearbox. And also at significantly lower prices than its leading competitors from the major German brands. The new SsangYong Rexton is available in three versions: Pro, for 38,200 euros; Premium, from 42,800 euros and Limited, from 50,800 euros; all versions have a 5 year warranty.

The new SsangYong Rexton stays true to these qualities, with high driving comfort and now much improved safety equipment, more technology and better performance. The design has been renewed in search of a more elegant image with more dynamics. But the new Rexton does not change in dimensions, with an overall length of 4.85 meters and a long wheelbase of 2.86 meters it can comfortably accommodate seven passengers. The width is 1.96 m and the height is 1.82 m. The interior of the new Rexton offers high-quality materials and finishes, with a new center console with electronic controls to operate the gearbox, a flattened sports steering wheel at the bottom and a large digital screen as instrument panel, in color and customizable.

The new Rexton installs the new e-XDi 220 turbo diesel engine, with four cylinders in-line and 2.2 liters displacement, which develops 202 hp, 21 more than that of the model it replaces, and a maximum torque of 441 newton meters, 21 more than that of the Rexton 2018. This engine is associated with an eight-speed electronic automatic gearbox with longer developments, lower noise and more precise shifting to improve performance, consumption and emissions. It also features the ISG Stop & Go system to further reduce fuel consumption and increase safety by automatically selecting the “P” position when the engine stops. Connectable four-wheel drive (on all trim levels), with a low-reduction rear differential and lockout on the Limited trim level, takes the new Rexton’s off-road capability to another level and is well above the segment average. In addition, with a length of almost five meters and a curb weight of 2,105 to 2,241 kilograms, depending on the equipment version, the new Rexton achieves a minimum average consumption record of only 7.7 liters per hundred kilometers and can reach a maximum speed of 184. km/h.

SsangYong’s extensive experience in all-wheel drive is reflected in the plug-in 4×4 system fitted to the new Rexton. Under normal conditions, the Rexton circulates in «2H» mode, with its power being transferred through the rear wheels, on which the maximum weight falls during acceleration and starting, maximizing the traction capacity compared to a front-wheel drive. When ground conditions get difficult, the driver can change the driving mode and switch to 4×4. In asphalt areas with smooth surfaces or unpaved roads without major problems, the «4H» mode (four-wheel drive for high speed) offers safety and greater traction capacity, distributing the available torque between both axles by 50%. When the situation gets complicated on very rough terrain and high torque and maximum traction is required, the «4L» mode (four-wheel drive with reduction gear) offers off-road performance typical of a true off-roader, which sets the Rexton apart from the rest of the large SUVs on the market. The Rexton has a high towing capacity of 3,000 kilos and to make this use safer, the TSC (Trailer Sway Control) stability system controls the movements of the trailer in relation to the towing vehicle and prevents possible wobble of the trailer, to a great extent. possible dangerous situations.

The flagship of SsangYong reaffirms its position as an alternative to large SUVs and at the same time to large SUVs, thanks to its large space and modularity thanks to the seven seats, the large 641 liter trunk and the bucket seats. 40:60. In terms of safety, the delivery of the new Rexton includes up to 9 airbags, autonomous emergency braking, automatic lane maintenance system, high beam control, blind spot detection system, lane collision warning, rear cross traffic assistant, safe parking warning and a long list of preventive security systems.
