The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has revealed that the country with which a new commercial agreement will conclude is the United Kingdom. The announcement comes after weeks of speculation and promises to strengthen the ties between the two historical allies.
Donald Trump has announced that the expected commercial agreement that his government will sign in the coming hours will be with the United Kingdom. The American president used his social network, Truth Social, to continue that it is a “complete and integral” pact that the bilateral relationship “will consolidate for many years.”
“Because of our long history and mutual loyalty, it is a great honor that the United Kingdom is our first announcement,” said Trump. The president had generated expectation for a “big agreement” with an important country, although he had not revealed his identity so far.
Starmer has pointed out that the United Kingdom “will always act on the basis of national interest”, and emphasized that the aim of the agreement is to offer “safety and renewal” to the country. The announcement takes place in a context of bilateral negotiations aimed at reducing the impact of rates recently imposed by the United States.
Last month, Washington imposed 10 % rates at British export and 25 % surcharges for important products such as steel, aluminum and vehicles. London expects this new commercial agreement to contribute to alleviating these costs and to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
