“Faith Lives” – Pope Leo XIV is celebrated in St. St. St. St. van Vienna

Date:

With a “Te Deum”, the Catholic Church of Austria thanked the new Pope Leo XIV on Saturday evening.

The former Archbishop, Cardinal Christoph Schönborn, explained the dedication of Simon Peter after the greeting of countless guests in response to Jesus’ question what his disciples hold him for. This dedication to Christ as the Son of the Living God is the real “rock” (Greek “Petros”) on which the church was built. 267 successor to the first pope in around 2000 years showed an amazing continuity, Schönborn said. At least as a reason to joy as a new pope is the faith of people in time. The ‘rocky’ of the church is not people, but this dedication.

“With you I am a Christian, I am a bishop for you.”
In the beginning, the Cardinal welcomed the representatives of ecumenism and politics that are present in addition to high -ranking representatives of his own church with the apostolic Nuncio cake bishop Pedro Lopez Quintana, in particular the family members of the Order of Augustin, to which the new Pope Leo XIV also belongs. The pope is not above the people of God, but as his servant he must protect faith. The previous Curial Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost expressed this with the well -known word of St. Augustine: “With you I am a Christian, for you I am a bishop.”

The intensive experience of the last few days with the death of Pope Francis and the choice of Pope Leo XIV is not only a testimony of two special people, but also for the fact that the Christian faith lives. In the adoption of Pope Francis in Rome, the unmanageable army of the grieving simple believers gained him more than the church representatives and heads of state around the coffin. This faith is not a fruit of his own knowledge, but a gift and grace that is revealed by God – even if he knows questions, weaknesses and doubts, Schönborn explained.

Schönborn remembered Francis
Finally, the Cardinal remembered the blessing that Urbi et Orbi remembered as the last public act of Francis and called pray for his successor Leo XIV, so that he too is a blessing for the church, Christianity and for all people.

“Te Deum” is the start of a solemn Latin praise, thank you and please sing of the church. It sounds in church services in which there is an opportunity for thanks, for example after processions and dedication treatments, previously often after royal and imperial crowns. The Gregorian in Deum is sung or prayed especially after a pope election.
