On Friday evening, priority checks were carried out in Vienna-Donaustadt by the radar group of the Vienna State Traffic Service (LVA). Two speeders were caught on Donaustadtstraße in the direction of the Southeast Tangente (A23) traveling at 130 km/h in a 50 zone.
According to the police, the first driver was measured at 129 km/h at around 8:40 pm, the second shortly afterwards at 9:10 pm at a speed of 132 km/h. Now they are threatened with having their driver’s license revoked.
Most accidents are due to speeding
Such police checks are essential for accident prevention, as not respecting the speed limit was one of the main reasons for road accidents last year. In 2021 there were a total of 15 road deaths in Vienna.
Exceeding the applicable speed limit was the main cause of traffic accidents at about 27 percent. At nearly 25 percent, carelessness and distraction were the second most common causes of accidents.
