The iconic state contract photo with the ministers of the Signatar states around Leopold Fig. 70 years ago on the balcony of the Belvedere of 15 May 1955 is a “fake”. The meticulous photo archivist Gerald Piffl discovered the falsification. He showed that the face of the American minister John Foster Dulles was retouched to have a “beautiful photo”.
The expert who discovers such special functions is “Lord” in almost six million paper photos. Gerald Piffl will probably not all be able to process and digitize this until his death. He leads the important photo collection of the Publishing House of Brandstätter with the historical photos of the most important photographers since 2004. The valuable documentation is housed in Vienna-Döling in large, high rooms in nostalgic index cabinets.
