Wraps instead of worsts – this alternative as a snack has the upper hand. For many, a mystery remains how healthy it actually is.
The thin flatbread, wrapped with a filling with a filling, is now often on the menu. It often consists of vegetables and salad and can easily be integrated into stressful daily life.
The Labor Chamber in Upper Austria (AK Oö) has now investigated nine wraps from the catering trade with street sales and supermarkets – with a pleasant result: everyone was hygienically impeccable, only the taste left a lot to be desired, according to consumer protection on Wednesday.
Fresh, scent, taste and microbiological quality according to the requirements of German society for hygiene and microbiology were checked. The final general judgment was based on the sensory and microbiological impression, as well as “on the expectations of the buyers of a fresh, attractive and hygienic perfect wrap,” said it in the broadcast.
Eight of the nine samples investigated were completely unobtrusive. A low guideline of yeasts was found in one monster, but this did not lead to a devaluation, according to the AK Upper Austria. With this all samples received the rating “Flawless”.
Chemical sauce
The results of the tasting were not that clear. Four products performed well in terms of taste. With two wraps the testers found slight weaknesses, so a sauce tasted slightly chemical or the wrap was too dry. Three snacks did not take, the ingredients such as peppers, flatbread or tuna looked old.
If you want to know how many calories there are in a packed snack, you must fall back on the packaged products in the supermarket, because only nutritional information can be found there. Depending on the size and filling, they deliver between 337 and almost 500 kilocalories per portion.
