Strict corona measures are now in force in major Chinese cities: After the number of infections rose to the highest level since August after a week of vacation in early October, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Xian and other megacities in the People’s Republic were forced to act. Two tests a week required
In the economic metropolis of Shanghai with its 25 million inhabitants, 28 locally transmitted infections were counted. That was the fourth consecutive day of double-digit growth. To avoid a lockdown like the one seen in April and May, which had caused much resentment, authorities have ordered that people be tested twice a week until November 10. Previously, only once a week was required.
China is pursuing a zero-covid strategy to prevent outbreaks. Since the second half of 2020, the measures have ensured that the virus is largely under control.
