A 27-year-old woman from Georgia, who was missing in the Sierra Nevada for more than three weeks, was discovered alive in a remote mountain hut. As the office of the Sheriff from Fresno County announced on Wednesday, Tiffany Slaton was found in a hut from the Vermilion Valley Resort near Lake Edison – Deehydrated, but otherwise good.
Only due to snow freedom was the owner of the resort, Christopher Gutierrez, access to his remote hut on Wednesday. He had deliberately left her unexpectedly to offer walkers in an emergency. As the Omroep NBC News reports, Gutierrez immediately recognized the woman as Tiffany Slaton after she left the hut without a word and hugged him.
Contact with the missing days impossible
Slaton would be missing by her parents on April 29. They had no contact with their daughter for nine days. The last knowledge dates from 24 April in a store in the region around Shaver Lake. On April 20, Slaton left for a solo camping trip in the Sierra Nevada, which should only last a few days.
After she fell out of a cliff, in which she injured herself and was for two hours, she could not return to her original path because of an avalanche. Her emergency calls on the mobile phone were not successful.
Only good know -how saved her life
While NBC continues, Slaton had no tent or sleeping bag during her 24-day Odyssey in the mountains and she had to feed on wild leek, snow and self-collective plants. It survived a total of 13 snowstorms and partially moved to heights of more than 3300 meters.
Her medical knowledge as a dialysis technician and her experience as an outdoor lover and plant expert helped her to survive.
“Dad, I live – and I’m sorry”
A large -scale search use with helicopters and floor teams was performed from 6 to 10 May. During this time an area of approximately 1500 square kilometers is combed. According to the authorities, about 6900 kilometers were covered on foot or with vehicles.
When Slaton was finally found the day before her 28th birthday, she told her father on the phone: “Daddy, I live – and I’m sorry.”
