The French doctor, who is accused of the abuse of 299 children, has made an extensive confession to the court. He confessed all the actions of the indictment and admitted that he had sexually abused his granddaughter. Two of his victims have now committed suicide.
“You are dead, I am responsible for it,” he said on Tuesday in Vannes. One of the two young men died of an overdose, his family takes suicide. The other man also committed suicide. Joël Le Scouarnec (74) has been responsible for the abuse of 299 patients, most children since February. His victims were on average eleven years old.
About two -thirds of them said during the process. They often showed photos of children in the courtroom, but the accused always said not to remember them. The actions lasted more than 25 years, from 1989 to 2014. During this time, the surgeon worked in around twelve different hospitals in West France. Although some of his colleagues and managers knew that he had previously been convicted of abuse children abuse, this had not hindered his career.
Criticism of the silence of the politicians
Le Scouarnec abused his victims under the pretext of investigations or while they were under general anesthesia, partly also on the operating table. He carefully led his actions. Many claimants and organizations for child protection regret that the process in France had received surprising attention. On Monday, several victims of the doctor protested against the “silence of the politicians” in court.
In fact, French media reported little about the procedure compared to the test with rapist Dominique Pelicot last year, although it is so far the largest pedocrimal process. The judgment is expected on 28 May. Le Scouarnec threatens 20 years in prison. Another procedure is planned to abuse the granddaughter.
