Influencers such as the German Hanna Hansen-Formerly Model and Professional Boxer-Hebben also thousands of followers on social media platforms in Austria. Your goal: bring as many people as possible to Islamism.
It’s about politics, not about faith, says IMet Mehmedi, lawyer in the Documentation Center of Political Islam, during a lecture by the Austrian Center for Intelligence (Acips) and certainly on Tuesday living at the University of Graz: “Islam is a diverse religion, Islamism is an ideology with a claim with religious power.” To repent, witnesses and knowledge of Islam are usually needed, says Mehmedi. “Influencers leave everything.”
Great promises for young people
Salafism is the ideology behind the (right -conform) political Islam and violent jihadism. “Salafists have succeeded in transferring their agenda to the online world,” says Amrei Martschinke, who is investigating trends on social media for the documentation site. They promise young women a ticket for paradise and freedom through the headscarf, young men thick cars.
The Salafists also rush to “liberal Islam” – and this means normal mosques, says Mehmedi. “In the mosque you get context, you wipe away online after 30 seconds.” Martenschinke: “It can be a first step in the jihadist militan.”
