A total of 42 emergency services with six vehicles left for the center of Spittal (Carinthia) on Thursday morning. A witness reported a strong smoky case via an emergency call.
Initially only the FF Spittal an der Drau drove to the site. However, when the smoke development was confirmed on arrival and the fire brigade was able to estimate the size, the alarm was raised “because of the local conditions and the size of the object” and the Olsach-Molzbichl and St. Peter/ Spittal fire brigade received a follow-up alarm.
The Floriani were forced into the store: “Two respiratory protection teams searched the premises for the possible cause of the fire and people who needed help,” says the Spittal an der Drau fire brigade. Nothing was found. In any case, the building could be smoked out by several powerful fans.
Owner solved puzzles
Only when the emergency services were able to reach the owner of the store could the cause of the mysterious smoke development be clarified. “He explained that there were smoke machines in the building, which apparently went off by mistake and caused the entire building to go up in smoke,” reports a firefighter.
“It is an alarm system that covers the store after being activated to limit the view of possible burglars or robbers,” the director explains in the interview with “Krone”. On Thursday morning there was a false alarm that triggered the fog systems.
Hardly any visible difference
“Optically, fog or theater smoke does not differ from the smoke of a fresh fire, the smoke only turns black later,” explains commander Johannes Trojer. But it is well known that prevention is better than cure. Therefore, the owner will probably have to pay for the damage to the broken door himself, but will not incur any further costs. “But we also tried to do as little damage as possible during this mission,” says Trojer. The mission was thus ended.
