In the course of a worldwide raid on the Darknet, the hidden empire of the internet, 270 suspects were examined and then arrested. According to the European police organization Europol, networks could be taken that mainly traded with drugs, weapons and fake products. Also in Austria the handcuffs clicked as part of the “Operation Raptor”.
The arrested person would often have made thousands of sales at illegal market places and used coding tools and cryptocurrencies. Already in 2023, 288 suspects were blown up at the “Operation Spector”. According to Europol, this success of the research shows the increasing capacity of the law enforcement agencies to successfully determine in the Darknet.
American researchers took the most suspects with them
This time most of the arrests took place at 130 in the United States. In Germany the handcuffs for 42 suspects clicked, there were 37 arrests in Great -Britain and in France and 19 in South Korea. In addition to Austria (4), other people were arrested in the Netherlands (4), in Brazil (3) and one person in Switzerland and Spain. According to Europol, further research is underway.
More than 184 million euros were seized in cash and in Cryptocurrencies, more than two tons of drugs -especially amphetamine, cocaine, ketamine, opioids and cannabis -over 180 firearms, plus imitation weapons, taser and mes illegale, fake products and more than four TOBACCCCO and more than more than four. “These epileptic seizures are an important condition of the criminal supply chains that stimulate the DarkNet economy,” EuroPol emphasized.
In Austria, the operation was implemented by the addictive trade department via postal shipping and the internet in the Federal Criminal Police Office (BK). After the allocation of four goals with a home connection in the context of international cooperation, an arrest was arrested. It was the seller “Rauschbad” who was arrested shortly before the data packages were received and assigned to the “Operation Raptor” after coordination with Europol. The other three assigned people were previously investigated – the seller “Amagütes Seal” – or no longer active.
“Clear anonymity of the darknet”
In the study, the BK officials found three other providers (“144k”, “SpeedyCokesales” and “Mementos”), some of which were arrested in collaboration with the State Criminal Police Office Burgenland. A fourth case was processed. “Everyone who thinks they can hide behind the apparent anonymity of the Darknet is wrong,” said BK director Andreas Holzer.
