Russia’s Nord Stream pipeline suspends gas supply to Germany for ‘maintenance’

Date:

The Kremlin has rejected any suggestion that Russia is using oil and gas as a political pressure weapon.

Russia’s Nord Stream gas pipeline has suspended supplies of gas to Germany for “maintenance” until today and until the following day, infrastructure manager Nord Stream AG said.

Since June last year, the gas pipeline, which has been laid at the bottom of the Baltic Sea, has been operating at 40% of its capacity, according to Russia due to the fact that Canada, due to the sanctions weighing on Moscow for its “special military operation” in Ukraine, did not return some of the turbines that were under repair and needed to pump the fuel.

Last year, maintenance work was carried out on the Nord Stream between 13 and 23 July.

Russia announced two consecutive cuts in gas supply through the Nord Stream last June, first a 40% and then a further 33%, justifying Russian gas giant Gazprom over problems with the technical ratings of the turbines. used in pumping stations.

The Kremlin has rejected any suggestion that Russia is using oil and gas as a political pressure weapon.

“No one has invented new works (on the Nord Stream gas pipeline). If the turbines return after their repair, the supply can be increased,” said Russian presidency spokesman Dmitri Peskov. referring to the turbines kept in Canada.
