Volunteers – In an emergency in the country “for each other”

Together, natural disasters can be controlled better and faster. This is one of the painful experiences that many lower Austrians have had during the flood disaster in September 2024.

The background: “For each other” was originally launched during the Corona crisis in the Waldviertel and has since proven itself in countless crisis situations and the transport of relief supplies at the start of the Ukraine crisis to support for storms to help after natural disasters.

“Greatest dedication” in September 2024
In the course of the Millennium High Water, many volunteers also won the clean-up and rescue measures. In the future they want to join forces and ensure that they can be used quickly and efficiently throughout the country.

“The core task of the Civil Protection Association is to prepare people for disaster events,” said the President of the Civil Protection Association, Christoph Kainz. At the same time, however, you also want to take a new way and with the “Organizing Buurthulp” initiative. Coordination and operational planning takes place via the Civilian Protection Association. 800 helpers are currently registered. These are volunteers who offer quick help in an emergency. And not as a competition with other operational organizations, but as a help with cleaning up, wearing furniture, shopping or filling in claims.

Everyone can help
“The more participation, the better”, the motto is. The principle applies: “Everyone does what they can do”, there is no mandatory training, but a one -day basic course is offered.
