The sad reports of dead animals in Tyrol continue unabated: 11 dead and two injured sheep were found in East Tyrol last weekend. At least 25 other farm animals are currently missing. According to the state there is “concrete suspicion of wolves”.
Numerous animal killings by wolves have already been recorded this year across the country, especially in East Tyrol. Last weekend, such a predator was likely to be mischief in the municipal areas of Lavant and Ausservillgraten.
“Concrete suspicion of wolves”
“Currently, eleven dead, two injured and about 25 missing sheep can be assumed. Based on the crack assessment, there is a concrete suspicion of a wolf,” the state reported Monday. Suitable samples have been taken and are now being sent for genetic testing.
Bear confirmed in Thiersee
There is also news about the three sheep that were killed on an alpine pasture in Thiersee (Kufstein district) at the end of June. “The genetic testing has now confirmed a bear,” the country continued. As early as mid-June, in the municipality of Langkampfen (also in the district of Kufstein), a bear was photographed by a wildlife camera and genetically confirmed using a sheep carcass. No sightings or damage have been reported to authorities from this area since the Thiersee rupture.
