Vecht against Stormen – Brandbrigades prepare for approaching floods

Date:

Given the unpredictable fickle weather, bad memories of earlier floods wake up. Before the country storms violent thunderstorms again, emergency services offer many tons of sandbags for the construction of protective walls.

Our fire brigades act with a view. Because it cannot be excluded that violent storm caprioles will be repeated in the coming days, weeks and months with large scales floods, the volunteers want to be equipped for powerful missions on time.

All hands full to do
The Rudersdorf-Tort fire brigade used the rain-free Saturday to prepare effective insulation against any floods. There were 62 tons of sand available, more than 5000 bags were filled. Instead of manually kicking, the extensive work can be done using a filling machine, loading crane and forklift truck.

Everyone helps with
Highly motivated support came from hard -working locals. “Given possible disasters, everyone helps full zeal,” Fire Brigade Commander Thomas Braun emphasized. Special thanks went to the styric city of Feldbach for offering the filling machine, the Freismuth Company for the sand and the screening system and the Luiser Company for a wrap machine.

Dramatic consequences
Bad memories of the floods last year, such as the night until 9 June, have activated the state of emergency as a storm in the Oberwart district. Small streams became rivers, streets and houses were under water. Various families have lost everything. Local fire brigade brigades and the armed forces were constantly in use for days. “We will fight against such terrible emergency situations with all your strength,” promise the professional helpers.
