Italy is introducing more and more curious rules this summer that apply to both holidaymakers and locals. In the future, for example, dog owners will be obliged to bring a water bottle. This is intended to flush out the urine of the four-legged friends if necessary.
The decision, which applies to the island of Ponza south of Rome, followed complaints from locals about the pungent smell of urine on the street. If you do not comply with this, you can expect a fine of 500 euros.
Walking in swimwear is not allowed everywhere
But that’s not the only new rule in Austria’s neighboring country. Several seaside resorts introduced an equal amount for city walks in bathing suits this summer. This also affects men who go through the places bare-chested. The many tourists who roam the streets half-naked would damage the reputation of the cities. Topless bans also apply in the city of Milan, where people with minimal clothing are allowed to sunbathe in parks. The fine for this arrangement is 300 euros.
One rule aimed primarily at tourists is the ban on slippers on the hiking trails in the Cinque Terre region. This is intended to increase safety after many injuries were previously caused by unsuitable shoes. If you don’t wear the right shoes there, you risk fines between 50 and 2500 euros.
